XIV Corps [which had taken over from XIII Corps] The 3rd Division's attack at 0540hrs cleared Cochrane Alley and the trench along the Hardecourt-Guillemont road. A trench mortar barrage prevented the capture of Lonely Trench. The third objective, a strong point just south of the Trones Wood-Guillemont track, was not reached.
Anzac Corps. Through the night the Germans threw in repeated attacks which were held by a combination of rifle and machine gun fire and a protective barrage.
