Summary

First day without rain for nearly two weeks. XV Corps troops took and held three trenches. The Anzac Corps in a series of attacks took sections of the German front line, Bayonet trench, and the Maze. They were only able to hold the Maze. In III Corps sector attacks were rewarded with significant advances, in places as far as the Bapaume Road beyond two German lines. However no gains were held and by the end of the day the British were back on their start lines. A day when men had to be pulled out of the mud before they could start their attacks.
