Summary
Sir Arthur 'Bomber' Harris' first 1,000 bomber raid of the RAF's strategic bombing offensive on Germany. 1,047 aircraft, mostly Wellingtons and Halifaxes carried out a night raid on Cologne, which suffered nearly 500 dead and more than 5,000 injuries for the loss of 41 aircraft.
