The Russians produced a strong two pointed attack against the British while also pinning down the French. Mist hampered the actions of both attackers and defenders. At first the Russians made significant progress against their out numbered opponents but they took a very large number of casualties. Even after all the British reserves had been committed the Russians were making progress. Eventually, with the mist clearing and with French assistance, the Russian attack was defeated.
