Part of : The French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars , The Peninsular Campaign ,

Outcome : A victory for French Garrison + Bonnet's Division over Spanish Forces

Type of battle : Land

General Ballasteros lead his troops in a successful attack on the French base at Santander. Stores, ammunition and cash were captured. Five small French naval vessels tried to escape but were taken by the British frigates Amelia and Statira. Ballasteros made the mistake of trying to hold Santander instead of withdrawing back into the hills with his gains. Bonnet's division retook the town and captured most of the Spanish force. Ballasteros escaped by sea.
