The Austrians were pushing forward towards France. The French had a new force in the field, the Corps of the Alps under General Tharreau. The meeting at Susa, with the French in a five to three advantage threw back the Austrian advance.


A small walled town about 30 miles to the west of Turin. A junction of the routes into France over the Monte Cenis Pass and the Col de Montgenèvre. (Italy)
