Battle Name : Tamames

Date(s) : 18 October 1809

Part of : The French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars , The Peninsular Campaign ,

Outcome : A victory for Spanish Forces over French Forces

Type of battle : Land

The opinion, based on encounters to date, which the French held of the Spaniards was that they were ill-disciplined, poorly armed and mostly irregular troops. Although outnumbered two to one General Marchand, commanding the French Vl Corps in Ney's absence, expected to beat them easily. The attack by the Spanish vanguard upset the French equillibrium which they never regained.
