Summary
Villeroi launched a surprise attack on units of the allied army in the Maastricht sector. The French were able to capture Tongres and with it quantities of allied supplies. When the troops who had been attacking Bonn were released to come to the aid of the troops falling back from Tongres Villeroi decided to retreat, first razing Tongres.
