Napoleon's Leipzig Campaign

Campaign Name : Napoleon's Leipzig Campaign

Date(s) : 06 March 1813 - 05 November 1813

Part of : The French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars ,

Summary

In early 1813 the edge between the retreat from Russia and the Leipzig campaign were blurred. While Napoleon was in Paris organizing a fresh army and bringing it forward his marshalls were falling back before the Russians and their new allies e.g. Prussia.
As the campaign started there was then a period of Napoleonic successes before a pause to discuss peace [1st June to 16th August] . With both sides strengthened the struggle continued but the pause seems to have aided the Russians and Allies rather more than Napoleon. The struggle culminated in the Battle of Nations, Leipzig, said to be Napoleon's Trafalgar on land. The Leipzig campaign merged into the defence of France.
